Bio

As a multi instrumentalist, playing guitar, slide guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, percussion and trumpet, Jan has been joyfully creating music since she was 8 years old. After moving to the Kootenays, Jan teamed up with Chris E. Ott and they began to co-write lyrics together. Jan is a prolific writer, recording artist and producer.

In 1997 Jan released the self titled debut album "Jan Van Gold". A collection of 10 original songs recorded simply with guitar and vocals.

In 2003 Jan produced an instrumental album titled "Move". This album was written using a midi guitar to access a variety of computer generated instruments.

In 2003 Jan produced another instrumental album titled "Morning Medley For Mom". This is a collection of finger style guitar tunes, an organic mix of original and classical guitar pieces.

2006 saw Jan release an album titled "Edge Dweller". This is a collection of original songs on which she sings and plays a variety of instruments including banjo, mandolin, bass, drums, percussion, slide guitar, electric guitar and acoustic guitar. Jan collaborated lyrically with Christine Sunbeam on some of the songs on this album.

In 2007 Jan released the “Shimmy On” CD, a danceable mix of funky rock hip-pop tunes guaranteed to get you up onto your feet. It features a colossal electric slide guitar sound fused with electrifying vocals, rhythm guitar, bass and drums. A lyrical feast focused on seasons of dreams, hopes, challenges, initiations and passions.

Jan's latest release titled “loop-d-loo” is an instrumental album with layered guitar tracks using a loop pedal. Jan is able to perform these songs solo with live loops. 1 woman, 1 guitar, 1 loop pedal and 3 effects = a sonic journey.

Over the years Jan has performed at many festivals including the South Country Fair in Alberta and at the Folklife Festival in Seattle.

Jan is currently heading out onto the road on “the jvg experience” loop-d-loo tour. Keep an eye out for her in a town near you!
